Inside the Breakthrough – How Science Comes to Life

Inside the Breakthrough – How Science Comes to Life

    by

    Since Jan 5, 2021 19:33 UTC

In Season 2 of the series we will share a new collection of surprising and unusual stories from the history of science. In each episode we will feature two seemingly unrelated stories from the past. Then, Dan Riskin will connect the dots between those stories and offer insight into how that history impacts modern medical research. We are learning from the past so we can understand the present, and inform the future. Along the way we will learn how a professor at Stanford turned mild mannered young men into cruel vicious prison guards, and how the Irish Potato Famine really had nothing to do with potatoes. We will ask questions such as: “Did we learn the wrong lesson from the sinking of the Titanic?” “How many people did Orson Wells actually fool?” and “What exactly is Maple Syrup Urine Disease?” In these ten episodes we will also follow along with SciMar as they take their breakthrough science into the testing phase. Will the things they discovered in a row of test tubes in the lab be repeatable in real people? And will that prove to be the final cure for type 2 diabetes? So, if you are intrigued by science, get excited about the process of discovery, and want to have the best stories at your next dinner party, this is the show for you. We promise a season full of guinea pigs, Corona beer, shipwrecks, and cobras. — The series is produced by SciMar, a medical research company developing a new way to detect, treat and cure type 2 diabetes. Rather than insulin from the pancreas, they are focused on hepatalin, a hormone that comes from the liver. We will use historical stories to shine a light on where this modern company is headed.

    Since May 10, 2021 06:35 UTC

In this podcast, we’ll be talking to people willing to share their stories of here and there. We want to go beyond race, accent, and cuisine and have conversations that will allow us to understand the meaning of here and there better. You’ll hear us wonder about what it means and how it feels to be an immigrant, expat, or otherwise. We are curious how we can see each other and be together while sharing the richness of our experiences. We hope you’ll join us and forgive us if our silliness gets in the way.

    A New African

    A New African

    by

    Since Feb 16, 2015 01:00 UTC

A moral decline has taken root in thinking of the African-American community. History has shown repeatedly that a moral decline in man leads to intellectual decline, and intellectual decline leads to ignorance (darkness) and conjecture. When darkness falls upon the face of the deep, men who strive for moral and intellectual balance are obligated to pursue efforts to bring reason and rational out of ignorance (darkness) and conjecture. For ignorance and conjecture over time lead to a path that misguides, and it is the misguided ones who eventually fall into misbelief, then disbelief, soon followed by the emergence of weak morals, corruption, falsehoods, and finally previsions. “Natural Law”, a system of preexisting conditions inherently fixed in the universe, regulate the balance of the seen and unseen forces, a check and order for all living organisms (except man), in an ever evolving universe, set in motion by the omnipotent One, the (Creator). A thorough study of Natural Law will reveal that man (Homo sapiens) has evolved over millions of years out from an inferior primordial origin, following evolutionary footsteps that appear to be a predestined pattern embedded in nature. This pattern necessitates that for the healthy survival of the human species, man should follow a certain path (direction) of social and human development that is best compatible with the “genetic stuff” contained in the human DNA. The scientific reasoning process that man has learned from studying the signs (science) of our material reality should be convincing enough to compel men to follow this predetermined path, for “truth” stands out clearly from nonscientific paradigms (error) of human thought. Yet time has proven that Natural Law is not enough to restrict man from deviating from the intended path that leads to freedom, liberty, and justice for all humanity. It should be obvious that the Creator has given the human being the autonomy from the gravity of Natural Law and even the
